What is the KLAARA Prize?

At KLAARA 2027 there is a new prize for researchers.
The prize is for the best doctoral thesis about Easy Language.

The prize wants to support work that:

  • moves research on Easy Language forward
  • gives new ideas for accessible communication
    – for example in society, in public authorities, media, education, health and in other fields.

The winner gets 4,000 Euro in prize money.
The Wort & Bild Verlag pays this prize money.
Wort & Bild Verlag produces health information that is easy to understand.

 

Which research work can get the prize?

The prize is for doctoral theses on Easy Language.
Doctoral theses on Plain Language can also get the prize.

 

Who can submit a thesis?

  • supervisors of doctoral theses
  • authors of the doctoral theses

 

Who decides about the prize?

There is a scientific committee.
A committee is a group of experts.

The experts come from seven countries.
The members are:

  • Nattanun Chanchaochai (Thailand)
  • Sine Demirkiviran (Turkey)
  • Paula Jelonche (Argentina)
  • Camilla Lindholm (Finland)
  • Chris Maaß (Germany)
  • Anna Matamala (Spain)
  • Elisa Perego (Italy)

 

Call for applications and travel

The call for applications for the prize will be in spring 2026.

The nomination and the decision will be made
before the start of the conference.
This means: the prize winner can travel to Hildesheim and present the doctoral thesis in a plenary session.

The Wort & Bild Verlag pays the travel costs for the prize winner.
Wort & Bild Verlag also pays the prize money.
